"Officials have determined that Tony Stewart is cleared of all charges, but is still an immature douchenozzle."

He deserves manslaughter, but I doubt he'll get anything... (And before anyone tries to disagree, remember that Ward wasn't violating any rules or laws by leaving his car. Sure, that was dumb, but legally it doesn't give him any of the blame.)

I read an interesting take on the incident just a little while ago:

"The real story here was Kevin Ward Jr was not a rookie. He had been driving 360 winged sprint cars for four years. He had four victories to his credit in that time. He had history of being volatile and had been warned previously about exiting a vehicle on to a live track. Ward was a second generation racer who had been around the sport since he was four. His knowledge and experience should have kept him in the minimally damaged car. The rule book said he should have stayed in the car, but he made a different choice and that choice cost him his life and forever changed the life of Tony Stewart."

Ward effectively committed suicide.

Okay, calling it suicide is definitely taking this way too fucking far. I see what you're saying here, but suicide is a totally different thing.

Okay, he killed himself. Like any of those people you read about winning a Darwin Award; they died because of their own stupidity, not because of something anyone else did.

There is such a thing as unintentional suicide, sometimes negligent or accidental suicide, when someone does something dangerous without the intent to dying, but puts themselves in such a dangerous position that dying would, knowingly, be a very likely possibility. The argument is that Kevin Ward is knowledgeable enough about the dangers that his actions would classify this as such.
